Christos N. Fifis

Christos Fifis was born at Koskina of Agrinio in 1940. He completed High School at Xylokastro and Thermou. Between 1960 and 1964, before and after his military conscription, worked in Athens. In February 1965 he migrated to Australia. In Melbourne he did a variety of jobs. In 1968 he resumed his studies at La Trobe University in Economics (1974), Diploma of Education at Hawthorn Teacher's College (1974), Arts Degree in Modern Greek at the University of New England in NSW, Bachelor of Letters (1978) and postgraduate degree at Melbourne University M.A. (1983).
He has been involved with a number of different organisations in the community, has worked as an examiner for HSC in Victoria, and NAATI examiner, member of the Committee for Sister-Cities of Melbourne and Thessaloniki, Secretary and President of the Greek-Australian Cultural League and in many other areas.
In 2005 he retired from teaching and now is a Honorary Research Associate at La Trobe University.
He has published three books (1963-1972), was editor of one by Nikos Ninolakis (1986), took part in a large number of magazines and newspapers, six group publications, forty research studies, completed twenty-seven interviews, and three translations. The languages he uses are English and Greek. Issue 53 of the Antipodes journal is dedicated to Christos Fifis and his tremendous contribution to Letters and the Greek Community in Australia.
